  • Curtis H. Geary, VMD

    Practice Owner
    Dr. Curtis H.Geary is the owner and operator of Geary Veterinary Services, the practice where he worked as a high school student, since 2001.  A life long resident of Fayette County, he attended Penn State University, before earning his degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. He also operates another veterinary clinic at his former home, in nearby Bullskin Township. 

    He is interested in veterinary dentistry and loves learning about new advances and procedures.  His goal is to always move the practice ahead, along with any advances in veterinary care.  It's his belief that not all veterinary practices are created equal that compels him to get to know his patients and clients and provide the best care possible.

    When he is not seeing patients, Dr.Geary enjoys raising a variety of chickens: his favorite being Bantam Rosecombs. He enters many of his chickens in local fairs and shows.  His time at home is spent with wife Sarah and daughter, Piper.

  • Kayci Shanaberger, DVM


    Kayci Shanaberger began working at Geary Veterinary Services while she was in high school and attending classes at California University of Pennsylvania.  She graduated with a degree in biology.  Kayci began her studies to become a veterinarian at Ross University in St. Kitts and completed her classes at Michigan State University.

    Kayci is a lifelong resident of Lemont Furnace.  Kayci grew up with a lot of pets and has always had a love for animals.  She enjoyed working with large animals while in vet school; especially the cows.  She likes performing surgeries and has an interest in learning more about ophthalmology and skin issues in pets.

    She is an avid reader and her interest in books span from Harry Potter, true crime stories, and World War II accounts.

    In her spare time, she likes to work out at the gym, cook, and bake.  She enjoys spending time with her two brothers and three nieces, which includes riding quads and going to the movies.  She likes to play board games and listen to 80's music.

    She currently shares her home with two cats, Thomas, a grey and white kitty, and Mirabella, a calico.  Opal, a grey and silver Pit Bull Mastiff mix, rounds out her pet family.

  • Mary Kay Geary

    Practice Manager
    Mary Kay Geary has been working here at Geary Veterinary Services since 2001.  She is the practice manager and responsible for making sure the entire clinic runs smoothly.  She has had various jobs in the past dealing with the public, as well as fellow employees, which has given her the skills needed for this particular job.  Over the years, she has attended many training sessions and/or classes dealing with issues important to her job.  She feels she has probably learned much through on-the job training and working day to day.

    Most importantly, she has a special interest in the clinic, owned by her son, Dr. Geary.  It's important to her to help him make the clinic a successful and caring place for clients to bring their pets. Mary Kay has always had a love for animals and an interest in the science of veterinary medicine.  It's a wonderful feeling  for her to see animals improve after coming in sick or injured. Mary Kay shares her home with husband Bill, as well as many cats and their dog Diamond, a miniature schnauzer.

    When not working, Mary Kay enjoys collecting dishes, watching it snow, and spending time outside when the weather is nice.  She also enjoys dining out with husband, Bill and relaxing at home with the dogs.  She especially enjoys spending time with her granddaughter, Piper.

  • Brenda Beal

    Office Manager
    Brenda Beal has been working at Geary Veterinary Services since 2002. She has learned many things over the years including dog grooming, assisting with pets, and office management.  She is currently the office manager and her job involves interacting with everyone from the veterinarians, staff members, clients, and their pets.  She is responsible for assisting clients with payment arrangements and ordering supplies; among other things. She makes sure the practice runs smoothly and deals with any problems with speed and in a caring manner.

    The best part of her job is knowing that she is helping people who are compassionate and care about their pets. Over the years, she has gotten to know many of the clients by name and looks forward to seeing them with their pets.

    She has two dogs at her house:, Annie,a Shih Tzu, and Star, a Beagle.  She has been married to her husband Jeff  for 32 years and has two children:  Jeffrey, a State Police Liquor Control Officer and Ashley, who is in the healthcare field, and her grandchildren Gabriel, Ariel, Juliana, and Leaghann.

  • Robert S. Leighty

    Office Supervisor
    Bob has been working at Geary Veterinary Services since August 1997.  He has a Bachelor's Degree in English, Creative Writing from California University of Pennsylvania. As a Supervisor, he is responsible for keeping the office running as it should, as well as managing the inventory.  He also handles the duties of staff scheduling, our online store and social media.  

    Many of the clients know Bob from coming in over the years, and will ask for him when calling with a question or concern. Bob has seen many changes over the years, and enjoys meeting new people, working with the staff, and learning new things every day.

    Bob has been married to his wife, Jen, since July 13, 2013.  On May 16th, 2017, they were blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Rowan!  

    Pets that live at home with the Leightys are: 5 cats,(Chloe, Milo, Minnie, Meeko, and Max), 2 dogs (Boomer and Maggie), a conure (Skittles), a rabbit (Oswald), a hamster (Pongo), and 2 guinea pigs (Mowgli and Copper). 

    When he isn't working, he enjoys writing, watching T.V./DVDs, trivia, golf, basketball, softball, and just about any other sport.  He loves to support his alma maters in football and  basketball.  Especially the Uniontown Red Raiders, who he has traveled all over Pennsylvania for nearly 2 decades to see  play. For pro sports he cheers for The Penguins, Pirates, and 49ers.  

    Bob is a huge pro-wrestling fan and writes for in his spare time.  He enjoys watching The Simpsons and House on television.  He spends much of his spare time working on his writing. He has had several poems published and is currently working on a novel that he would like to see published.

  • Keisha Smitley, CVT

    Certified Veterinary Technician
    Keisha has been employed at Geary Veterinary Services since April of 2009.  She attended the Vet Tech Institute of Pittsburgh where she received an associates degree in veterinary technology.  She obtained her veterinary technician license, and is a Certified Veterinary Technician.

    As a certified technician, Keisha is responsible for taking care of sick patients in the hospital, drawing blood, taking x-rays, and assisting the doctor in surgery.  Keisha has a great personality and puts the clients and their owners at ease, especially patients that  are sick, and owners who are worried.

    On her down time, Keisha enjoys spending time with her fiance Terry and their children, Autumn and Logan, as well as her close family and friends.

    She shares her home with  3 cats -Cody, Chleo, and Wally.

    She feels that this is a very rewarding job and can't imagine working in any other field.

  • Sarah Geary, CVT

    Certified Veterinary Technician
    Sarah Geary has been working at Geary Veterinary Services since 2002.  She has an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Median School, and is a Certified Veterinary Technician. 

    Sarah spends much of her day working in the hospital, helping sick pets to get better. She has had much experience placing intravenous catheters and urinary catheters in cats. It is very satisfying when she can place a difficult catheter; knowing that these pets are depending on her to help them get better.

    Sarah knows that working in the veterinary profession requires lots of hard work and dedication.  It's not all about cute puppies and kittens, although we love seeing them.  It's a very rewarding job to know you are helping pets and their owners. 

    Sarah shares her home with many pets which include: Three cats, Barbie, Dora, and Lillie, two horses-Zip and Diego, about 80-100 chickens-some with names- Wala, Russell, Tuscan, Indie, Mark, Derek, Frannie, Giadi, and one pigeon Gwinivere.

    Sarah  spends most of her time with her husband, Dr. Geary and their daughter, Piper.  She also enjoys horseback riding, spending time outside when the weather is nice and going to various chicken shows with Dr. Geary.

  • Ashley DeLara

    Veterinary Technician
    Ashley has been working here at Geary Veterinary Services since March 2009. Her job duties include assisting the veterinarian and other techs, drawing blood, caring for hospitalized pets,  and helping our patients and their owners to a positive experience at their visit.

    Ashley has a true love of animals and she is devoted to helping them feel better and not be frightened while they are here.  Although she adores her chocolate Beagle, Sampson,she feels that she has a complex, spiritual relationship with cats-understanding them better than she does dogs.  She shares her home with six cats: Jetta, Ivan, Knuckles, Geisha, Bullet, and Torii.  She is proud that many of our "cat" clients ask for her by name and ask for her opinion with many feline issues.  Her areas of special concern are feline life enrichment and also studies of autoimmune and immunodeficiency diseases.  She and her husband also share their yard with seven koi fish; most with 80's themed names.  

    Some of her hobbies include: reading, fishing, drawing, listening to 80's and 90's music, playing old-school video games, and taking Geisha for rides in the truck. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Trappers Association and Furtakers of America and she encourages interest and pride in our nation's furbearing animals.  Wildlife Management is an important tool in creating quality lives and reducing suffering and disease.  She loves spending time with her husband, Chuckie, going shopping with her Mom, visiting with her Aunt, and spending time with her Niece.  Her favorite color is grey, and her favorite animal is the Mountain Lion.

  • Lois Brown

    Lois Brown has been working at Geary Veterinary Services since 2005. She is the one responsible for keeping the clinic looking and smelling clean.  This is not always an easy job, and it takes a dedicated, hard working individual to do this on a daily basis.  Lucky for us, Lois more than lives up to the demands of this job.  She is a fine role model for other employees, showing how to do your job, and do it well.

    Lois likes learning new things at the clinic, watching the technicians working with the pets, and interacting with the pets who are boarding or hospitalized.  She is always doing something, and looking for ways to keep the clinic looking its best.

    Lois has been married to her husband, Leroy for over 50 years. They enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren.   When she is not working, Lois likes to sew and enjoys shopping with her daughter and granddaughter.

  • Eva Rodriguez

    Certified Veterinary Technician

    Eva began her career here at Geary Veterinary Services in June of 2013. She loves being able to educate people on pet care and therefore change lives.  She graduated from The Vet Tech Institute in 2016 and has been a licensed veterinary technician since November of 2016. 

    She resides with five dogs; Rebel (a Blue Heeler), Eboney (a Black Lab), Ubu (a Pit Bull), Dixie and Ranger (two mixed breeds)

    In her spare time she enjoys working outside and going fishing with her dog.  Her passions are Veterinary Medicine and the Trucking Industry.  She and her husband J.J. live a comfortable and happy life together!  Despite working in a small animal practice, her favorite animal is a Cow!

  • Rose LeDonne

    Rose has been working at GVS for a little over ten years and has watched her job evolve over the years. She has a degree in education, and has been able to use a lot of her  background and past experiences in her current job.

    She works a lot "behind the scenes" to help to make the employee's jobs a little easier, help with client's concerns, and connect with the community.

    The most important part of her job is working with Dr. Geary to create documents, prepare for meetings and events, and create policies and programs for the clinic.  

    When not working, she enjoys reading, swimming, and spending time with her sisters.  She shares her home with husband Domenick and two dogs.  Molly is a sable collie from a local collie rescue, and MacGyver, a blue Merle sheltie.  She has two grown sons who reside in Pittsburgh and Portland, Oregon.
